ASP.NET 2.0
provides you with the tools you
need to build more powerful,
faster, more reliable Web
applications that can be scaled
to meet the customer's needs.
Traditional ASP applications
require extensive code for
common tasks like database
access, user management, and
security. It includes
drag-and-drop controls that you
can implement without writing a
single line of code. It includes
controls to help you develop
applications with a consistent
look and feel. Master pages,
themes and skins, and navigation
controls allow you to create
template pages without having to
reproduce code for each new
page. By using the new controls,
redesign changes can be updated
in the main template, and the
application is automatically
updated. Personalization
features enable you to customize
the content seen by each user.
Web parts and Profile allow you
to store personalization
information for each user, and
to display personalized UI based
on this information.
ASP.NET 2.0
added the \Code directory to
store assemblies that can be
compiled at run time, as opposed
to design time. It offers two
methods of code compilation.
Applications can now be
precompiled or in-place. It
introduces controls to help you
develop faster applications. By
implementing SQL cache
invalidation and post-cache
substitution, the number of
trips to the database is
drastically reduced. ASP.NET 2.0
applications are also much more
extensible. The provider model
allows you to create custom
providers, which allow you to
create custom data layers that
can communicate with any custom
data source. You no longer have
to worry about HTML tags, POST,
GET, and query strings. You can
focus on developing code that
implements business logic.
ASP.NET 2.0
also takes care of many of the
redundant details you had to
implement manually in ASP. For
example, you can use
object-oriented features to
easily re-use code between
pages. You can also leverage
master pages to quickly create a
coherent design for your
application, or apply skins and
themes to programmatically set
the look and feel of your Web
pages. Thanks to the intuitive
design environment, rich set of
debugging tools and strongly
typed compiled languages, It
helps you develop better
applications faster.
